Collision analysis and software

Introduction

Collision analysis and software is part of De Montfort University BSc(Hons) in forensic collision investigation.

This module surveys the various vehicle dynamics simulations available for collisions and spin out trajectories. The students will be introduced to the main models such as SMAC, HVOSM, PC Crash through various implementations of them e.g. EDSMAC. The assumptions of the underlying models will be explored and the advantages and disadvantages of the various models and implementations analysed. The emphasis will be on an overview of the various models rather than on a detailed derivation and manipulation of the equations for the models

What you will study

Simulations, tyre forces, simple vehicle models including the bicycle model. You will use PC Crash to develop your understanding in these areas.

Entry requirements

You will need to have successfully completed DMU's FdSc in forensic road collision investigation. Equivalent overseas qualifications will be considered.

Pre-course study

None.

Study method
